EPIC. Life is just tastier with it’s cruelty free buffalo cauliflower bites.

Last weekend, I hosted an all vegan and organic BBQ, it was epic to say the least. It was my first time hosting such a large group of people in my home, on top of providing delicious eats for vegans, and non-vegans alike. When I was putting the menu for my BBQ together, I was thinking about traditional BBQ dishes that I could easily (and tastefully) veganize to show my friends and family being vegan is not only EASYAF, but delicious..so naturally I thought to add buffalo cauliflower bites.

Cauliflower is an extremely healthy vegetable, so the nutritional deliciousness is next level when it comes to this recipe!

Health Benefits of Cauliflower

Cauliflower helps prevent cancer. By now we know of the massive studies linking lifestyle factors and nutritional choices to cancer. The food we consume can either help to fight or prevent disease. Cauliflower contains sulforaphane, a sulfur compound that has also been shown to kill cancer stem cells. For instance, research has shown that combining cauliflower with curcumin (the active compound in the spice turmeric) may help prevent and treat prostate cancer.A study published in Carcinogenesis also found sulforaphane may reduce the incidence and rate of chemically induced mammary tumors in animals.2 It also inhibits the growth of cultured human breast cancer cells, leading to cell death.

Cauliflower helps to fight and eliminate inflammation in the body. Researchers believe that inflammation is the root of all disease in the body. The rich antioxidant content as well as the anti-inflammatory compounds found in cauliflower help to target and eliminate inflammation. Beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, caffeic acid, cinnamic acid, ferulic acid, quercetin, rutin, and kaempferol- help to reduce oxidative stress in the body, untreated oxidative stress in the body can lead to cancer.  Just a one-cup serving of cauliflower contains at least 73% or more of the recommended daily value of vitamin C, helping to reduce inflammation, boost immunity and keep the body free of harmful bacteria, infections, and common colds.

Cauliflower decreases risk of heart related conditions. Heart disease is the number one killer in America. With cauliflower’s powerful anti-inflammatory compounds, researchers note that cauliflower can help decrease the risk of stroke, diabetes, and other neurodegenerative disorders like alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Cauliflower improves digestion and detoxifies the body. According to Dr. Axe, there are key compounds found in cauliflower that are very useful for helping the body to detox due to how they strengthen liver function. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, brusslesprouts, collard greens, bok choy) are beneficial for digestion and detoxification because of their rich supply of sulfur containing compounds called glucosinolates, which support proper nutrient absorption and waste removal. Glucosinolates stimulate what are known as Phase II enzymes, the body’s natural antioxidant system; there they help to trigger the liver to produce detoxifying enzymes that block free-radical damage.
